BEAUMONT - Atayanna Douglas was speechless as she was escorted out of the Beaumont Police Department. Her attorney, David Barlow says her demeanor was very different earlier.
"She feels very sorry for the Teel family, for this tragedy, because like anybody would think, this is a tragedy, and she understands that and she's very very sorry for that," Barlow said.
Beaumont Police say Douglas, who faces only aggravated robbery charges is somehow linked to the capital murder of Kera Teel and her daughter Kyndal.
Barlow says he instructed Douglas to not speak with the media to protect the integrity of the Teel investigation.
"She's very very scared, she understands what she's facing, she understands the magnitude of these cases," Barlow said.
Despite that fear, Barlow is confident his client's cooperation with investigators will help Beaumont Police.
"She's doing whatever she can to provide whatever information that she knows if she does have any in order to help this investigation move along, to bring justice to those that actually committed this offense," Barlow said.
He does not anticipate Douglas to be charged with capital murder. He also does not anticipate her bonding out of Jefferson County Jail soon.
