BEAUMONT - Only a few days after thanksgiving, people are already in a Christmas spirit. And there is no better way to get the Christmas festivities underway than the KCS Holiday express. An actual Kansas City Southern railroad train that will visit 22 cities in six states in 26 days. It made its stop in Beaumont tonight at the KCS rail yard from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and was free to the public.

“They had so much stuff I really didn’t even know that was in there,” said Jur’Ni Barr, a 3rd grader from Beaumont.

Three train cars are filled with Christmas decorations, trains, and elves. And at the end, you get to meet Santa, and he isn’t the only one bearing gifts. In every town along the way, the KCS Holiday Express is donating gift cards to the Salvation Army for families in need. According to Grant Elliot, who has worked on the Holiday Express for 13 years, these donations can really help after the Harvey floods.

“It’s extra special in these areas, because these are people that are really in a time of need and crisis, and trauma in their lives,” said Elliot, who plays the role of Head Elf on the Christmas Express.

And during a time when things can get a little hectic, it can be nice for families to slow down.

“I just like being able to spend time with the family,” said Mark Fiore, who visited the train with his family. “I work a lot so being able to spend any time with the family being able to do something cool like this is nice.”

The Christmas Express will be rolling on to DeRidder Louisiana next, and will finish it's journey on December 19th in Kansas City, Missouri.
