Jefferson County Candidates meet and greet community

NEDERLAND - All seats were taken at the First United Methodist Church in Nederland to see all six candidates running in Jefferson County.

The forum started with a coin toss to determine who would have the option to speak first. Running for Jefferson County Sheriff, Zena Stephens and Ray Beck told 12News why they should get the public's vote.

"I think the difference is going to be the style of leading the departments. We have different platforms based on our experiences in law enforcement." Said Stephens.

"My experience is unmatched and we have to lead the sheriff's department into the future now with everything going on in the country with law enforcement." Beck said.

Republican and Democratic candidates for County Court At Law # 2 Judge, Luke Nichols and Beaumont Municipal Court Judge. Terrance Holmes first took the stage.

The Candidates for 136th District Judge, Baylor Wortham and Dana Timaeus "took the stump" Tuesday night. For Nederland resident, Floyd Macon, he came to the forum to learn more about them.

"I came to see what the candidates have to say about the situation and I just do not know enough and would like to learn more." Said Macon.

After the forum, all six candidates did a meet and greet with the community and answered questions.

Early voting begins October 24th and Ends November 4th. Election day is Tuesday, November 8th.
