Jasper woman killed in one-car accident

JASPER - A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety has released the name of a Jasper woman who died in an accident Thursday afternoon.

The deceased is identified as Nelda Hadnot Bluitt, 62, of Jasper.

The one-car accident happened around 1:45 p.m. on Highway 63 West in Jasper County near the Sandy Creek Bridge.

DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said Bluitt was driving her Cadillac along the eastbound lanes of Highway 63 on Highway 63.  She left the roadway for an unknown reason and her car struck a tree.

Bluitt was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Ronny Billingsley.

No further information about the accident has been released as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
