Jasper City Council may appoint new mayor next week after mayor resigns citing health reasons

JASPER - The City of Jasper may have a new mayor next week after the current mayor resigned Friday citing health reasons

Mayor Randy Sayers announced his resignation Friday morning effective immediately "due to reasons of health" the Beaumont Enterprise reported.

The Jasper City Council will be accepting Sayer's resignation during its regular meeting on Monday, November 20, 2017, according to an addendum to an agenda posted for the meeting.

The council is also planning to decare a vacancy for the mayor's office, appoint someone to fill the position and administer the oath of office to the new mayor during the meeting according to the addendum.

Sayers, who served on the Jasper City Council for three terms before becoming mayor, was elected in May 2015.
