Thousands turn out to Freedom Fest at Ford Park

Hundreds of Southeast Texans turn out for Freedom Fest. Some people came to hear political speakers, others came to test it out in order to see who they may vote for.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Not a cloud in the sky at Ford Park Sunday for the Jefferson County Republican Party Freedom Fest. For most voters, the election tension was put aside for Sunday Funday.

Like for Luis Villarreyna, he brought his family to check it out. "We just took the opportunity to come out. I'm not a republican but I'm just here to have a good time." Villarreyna said.

Some people who already voted came out to hear political speakers take the stage just days before November 8th.

"I think its very important for the community to show their patriotism and talk to people who have made a difference in the world." Katy Mays told 12News.

For 27-year-old Caleb McCurry was at Freedom Fest as a test to see what political party he'll vote for. "I'm not sure yet. It's still up in the air." McCurry said.

Allison Pipkins came to the festival with her 5 and 8 year old sons for some fun and learning. "I feel its pretty important as a single mother. I think a lot of things need to change."

Along with political speakers, singers like Lonestar and David Joel also performed. Proceeds from the event are benefiting the 100 Club of Southeast Texas.

Organizers estimate more than 5,000 people attended the event.
