Guilty plea from man who killed Orange couple in drunk-driving crash

ORANGE - A man charged in a 2015 drunk-driving crash that killed a couple from Orange has pleaded guilty to two counts of intoxication manslaughter.

Travis Collins, 30, entered the guilty plea Thursday before 128th District Judge Courtney Arkeen.

According to 12News file stories, Riley Portie and his wife Emily died when Collins slammed his pickup into their motorcycle as they were stopped at the intersection of West Park Avenue and 12th street.

The Porties death came just days before their son was set to graduate from high school.  Orange Police Lt. Eric Ellison drove to the Portie’s home to break the news to their son Kazzie.  Lt. Ellison later walked Kazzie across the stage at his high school graduation.

A jury trial for punishment is set for July 24.
