Former Beaumont teacher sentenced to 5 years on child porn charges

BEAUMONT - A former Beaumont middle school teacher was sentenced Tuesday to five years in federal prison on federal child exploitation charges.

Gary Alan George, 56, who pleaded guilty in April 2016 to receiving child pornography, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Geroge was a Beaumont Independent School District teacher from 1999 - 2014 according to the release.

The former teacher distributed images containing child pornography to an investigator according to the release.

The US Department of Homeland Security told 12News their agents executed a search warrant at a home in north Beaumont off of Tram Road as part of Operation Predator according to previous reporting.

Investigators used forensic analysis of "electronic devices" seized when George's home was searched and found thousands of images of child erotica and pornography the release said.

George was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2015.

At the time of his arrest Nakisha Myles, Communications Specialist for the district, told 12News George worked at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School.

Sources within the district told 12News George used to work at Austin Middle School but was placed at King when the district closed down Austin.

Myles told 12News at the time of George's arrest that there has been no connection to any illegal activity on campus.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse according to the release.
