BRIDGE CITY - Family members of Judge James Scales III gathering at his home in Bridge City Sunday. Scales' daughter, Jackie, spoke to 12News off camera and describes her father as a compassionate person who was very loving.
Scales passed away following an accident with his lawnmower Saturday evening.
Neighbors living next to Judge James "Jimmy" Scales III say he was mowing a lawn along a ditch off Hebert St. Saturday when the deadly accident occurred.
The Scales family released a statement on Sunday that reads: "We are very proud of the man that he was. Very proud of our family and community that has been here for us who have called or came by. The prayers. We really felt the prayers. We asked that they continue the prayers. This is a huge loss for our family."
Scales leaves behind his wife, two sons, and daughter as well as a granddaughter. He was 65 years old.
12News learned Scales was very active in the Bridge City community and was involved with the American Red Cross and was part of the Orange County Drainage District Board.
12News put a call into the Bridge City Police Department for more information.
