Burned body found on Jefferson County road identified as 50-year-old Beaumont woman

A family member has identified the woman whose body was found Wednesday night along a west Jefferson County road.  Shanteal Green tells 12News the victim is her aunt Cordy Simmons, 49, of Beaumont.  Green said the family is awaiting answers from investigators as to what might have happened.Simmons would have turned 50 Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Simmons was identified through fingerprints. 

“The Sheriff’s Office and Cordy’s family need your help in finding who committed this horrible act, so that her killer can be brought to justice,” said Deputy Marcus McLellan. 

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477.)

According to 12News file stories, a dispatcher received a call about a possible burning body or mannequin in the 11600 block of Old Sour Lake Road at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.  When deputies arrived they used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames and discovered that it was a human body.
