BEAUMONT - Family of 71-year-old Wanda Spoonmore remember her as the grandmother that everyone loved. One of her nieces, Elizabeth Dominguez, shared her childhood memories with Spoonmore.
“We used to go out on a boat on the weekends. Go jet skiing and stuff like that so she always tagged along.” Said Dominguez.
Dominguez explains the 71-year-old comes from a very big family and was a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Police say Spoonmore was struck and killed on Highway 12 following a night at Maze of Terror in Vidor. She was with her grandchildren.
The driver fled the scene.
“It wasn’t fair that her life was taken away, that she was taken away from all of her family. Everybody that loved her.” Dominguez said.
Spoonmore’s family even have a group page on Facebook where they shared a slideshow honoring her.
“Being family oriented. Always doing something for others before yourself. That would be one of the gifts that she always reminded us. Don’t forget about your family.”
Family members plan on holding a small service for Spoonmore soon. They say her wish is to have her ashes spread in the river where her late husband was laid to rest.
