Evidence suggests skeletal remains found by Jasper County hunter could be man missing since 2015

JASPER COUNTY - Items found near where skeletal remains discovered by a Jasper County hunter last week may hold a clue to the possible identify of the remains.

A bag containing items that belonged to Jon Smith, 37, who was reported missing in 2015, was found about 350 feet from where the remains were found off of County Road 250 on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, according to Jasper County Chief Deputy Glenn Blank.

Investigators are still awaiting a positive identification via forensics but believe the evidence may be an indicator that the remains could be Smith.

A deer hunter removing his stand discovered the skeletal remains according to Blank.
