Drug suspects head to jail courtesy of Beaumont K-9 officers

BEAUMONT - Duke and Gus, Beaumont K-9 officers, have raked in more cash and drugs.

The doggie duo sniffed out $90,000 in cash and nearly 27 pounds of marijuana in two recent stops by Beaumont police.

Just before 1 a.m. Monday, officers talked to a man in silver Dodge Charger parked at the Petro located at 5405 Walden Road. Officers said there was a “heavy odor” of marijuana coming from the car. K-9 Gus found a black trash bag with 26.8 pounds of marijuana. The driver, George Stevenson, 42, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.  He is charged with possession of marijuana.

K-9 Duke earned his praises around 3 a.m. Saturday.  He found $90,000 hidden in a vehicle during a traffic stop.  Details of that stop have not yet been released.
