Driver cited for unsafe speed in school bus crash, no injuries

None of the four students on board a Hardin-Jefferson ISD school bus were injured Tuesday when the bus slid off of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. as the driver was making a right turn onto Patna Drive from Old Sour Lake Road.  

According to a news release from the Department of Public Safety, the driver, “made the turn at an unsafe speed and lost control of the bus.”

The four children who were on the bus range in ages from 9-14. Although the students were not injured, they were checked out by emergency personnel at the scene.

The driver of the school bus was cited for unsafe speed.

A spokesperson for the district issued the following statement:

This morning at approximately 7:00am, a Hardin-Jefferson ISD school bus was involved in an
accident at the corner of Old Sour Lake Road and Patna Drive. In addition to the bus driver and
a bus aide, there were 4 students on the bus. Emergency personnel evaluated all students and
staff, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by Hardin-Jefferson ISD and the Texas
Department of Public Safety
We are thankful that no students or staff were injured, and we will continue to investigate the
cause of the accident.
