DPS Trooper struck while investigating 18 wheeler crash

A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper has been injured after being involved in a wreck in Vidor.

VIDOR - A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper has been injured after being involved in a wreck in Vidor.

The trooper was was conducting an accident investigation involving an 18 wheeler on westbound Interstate 10 in Vidor when he was struck from behind by a passenger vehicle according to a release DPS Trooper Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

Ashley Karalas lives in front of where the wreck happened and heard the helicopter arrive at the scene. "I was scared because I did not see the trooper moving at first but at the end they started talking to him and he was a little responsive." Said Karalas. 

The trooper was transported to Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth where he received stitches because of his injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle striking the trooper is also being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Christus St. Elizabeth hospital.
