JEFFERSON COUNTY - Deputies are looking for help in identifying the body of a unidentified woman found burning late Wednesday night along a west Jefferson County road.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says that the black woman was between 26 and 35 years old and was about  5’ 5” tall and weighed about 140 pounds according to preliminary autopsy results.

The Sheriff's Office received a call about a possible burning body or mannequin in the 11600 block of Old Sour Lake Road at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday according the Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived they used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames and discovered that it was a human body that was burning according to Deputy Marcus McLellan.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the death as a homicide.

"This is of course a scene that no officer wants to come across on his patrol," Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy Marcus McLellan said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office shut down Old Sour Lake Road from Keith Road and Phelan road to Meeker road and Old Sour Lake to begin the difficult investigation.

Now, Deputy Marcus McLellan says they must turn their attention to finding justice for a victim brutally murdered.

"We've had deaths of all types but this one is very, horrifying," McLellan said.

He says they hope to find the person who left the woman in flames.

If you believe that you might know who the woman could be contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 409-835-8411.
