Colmesneil's Burger House preserves the town's royal history

All of the homecoming queens of Colmesneil H.S. are featured on the walls of the diner tucked away in the Tyler County woods.

Across the country, high school teens will be purchasing mums and flowers for their homecoming dates. Lots of photos will be taken to document the events of a Friday night in both small and large towns across the country.

But in Colmesneil, Texas, it's not Facebook or Instagram that's capturing the town's royal homecoming court history, it's the walls of the Burger House just north of town.

The restaurant opened in the 1980s, and for a very long time was run by original owner Virgie Mahan according to multiple historians grabbing lunch while 12 News visited the diner.

She was the homecoming queen in 1958, and of course, her photo is on the wall, like every other homecoming queen from 1937 until just last fall.

The Bulldogs next homecoming, the 2016 edition, will be Friday September 23, 2016, and you can bet the proud winner of the crown who gets announced that night will be featured, front and center, inside the Burger House, along with decades of ladies from Colmesneil High School.
