City not able to discuss why Port Arthur Police detective terminated

PORT ARTHUR - A Port Arthur Police Department detective who was put on administrative leave earlier in the year has been terminated.

A City of Port Arthur spokesperson confirmed that Detective Mickey Sterling has been terminated but refused to comment  on the circumstances of his termination citing his rights of appeal under the civil service statute.

Sterling was placed on administrative leave in February 2017 along with a PAPD deputy chief and two other officers

The Port Arthur Police department issued a news release at that time saying that several officers had been placed on leave pending an investigation.

It is unclear if Sterling remained on leave until his termination.

Sterling was a detective in the Major Crimes unit according to the department's website.

From the City of Port Arthur spokesperson...

Mr. Sterling is afforded certain rights of appeal under the civil service statute.

In order to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the hearing process, the city is not able to comment on the circumstances of his termination at this time.
