BEAUMONT - An ongoing argument between two West Brook High School students erupted into a large fight on the school's campus Wednesday after school let out.
The argument became a fight between the two students and the adult brother of one of the two students at about 3:40 p.m., about 50 minutes after school was out, in the parking lot between the performing arts center and the football stadium according to Beaumont Independent School District Police Chief Roberto Flores, Jr.
Many other students were still on campus and instead of calling police or school officials to report the fight several of the students instead used their phones to record the fight according to Flores.
Videos of the fight have been circulating on social media.
Police and school officials were only notified about the fight when a teacher came upon it, notified officials and then attempted to break up the fight Flores said.
The fight escalated when a car was stolen and one student drove the car into and toward other students.
Flores said that BISD Police have looked at all of the video and will be filing criminal charges and continue to investigate.
At least four charges will be filed including one charge of attempted aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, one charge of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, one charge of aggravated assault and one charge stealing a motor vehicle.
"We're just as horrified as the public is. The behavior that was demonstrated there was unacceptable. It's not just a mistake. It's not a bad decision. It's a criminal act. That's how come our department is investigating," said Chief Flores.
No arrests have been made yet.
