Shooting victim walks 2 miles, waits hours before calling police

BEAUMONT - A man was rushed to the hospital around 6:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.  A Beaumont police dispatcher told 12News the call for help came into dispatch from the 1100 block of Campus Avenue.  It was not immediately known if the man’s wounds are life threatening.

A 12News crew on the scene was told the victim was shot near the intersection of Brockman Street and Avenue A, then walked approximately two miles to his home on Campus Avenue to get help.  They said police were not called until, “hours after the shooting.”


The man who was shot was taken by ambulance to CHRISTUS Hospital St. Elizabeth.   12News was told the victim was not answering questions or cooperating with police.

The shooting happened about 4 hours after a fatal shooting in North Beaumont.  Police as of 7 a.m. have not yet determined if the two shootings are related.
