Beaumont federal inmate guilty of assaulting guard

A man serving time at Beaumont’s federal prison has admitted to assaulting a guard, now he’s facing a longer sentence.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Terence Millsaps, 51, of New Orleans, pleaded guilty Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn.

According to information presented in court, on Feb. 9, 2017, while an inmate with the Bureau of Prisons, Millsaps assaulted a correctional officer by striking the officer in the face with a closed fist. 

Millsaps faces up to eight years in federal prison at sentencing.  A news release issued Tuesday says, sentencing will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.”

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.
