Bayou Din Golf Club to close Nov 27 after 57 years of play

12 News met up with a group of eight golfers who never miss a day on the course. They will have to find a new place to golf when Bayou Din shuts its doors November 27th.

Bayou Din Golf Club just southwest of Beaumont will be closing November 27 after more than 50 years of play.

The course will end up being high end, high acreage ranch style lots but not a large sub-division.

"Over the past year in a half I've put a lot of money into the course in an effort to generate more interest out here. I bought new golf carts, clubhouse improvements, golf course improvements all in an effort to generate that interest and it just hasn't happened," owner George Brown told 12News on Monday.

The original 18 holes were designed by Jimmy Witcher and opened in 1958.

The club house opened the following year.

In 1993 the club opened the Links Nine which was designed by Warren Howard.

The course, operated by Aquila Golf, is on 227 acres off LaBelle Road.

The Babe Zaharias Course in Port Arthur, which is also operated by Aquila Golf, will remain open.
