Abandoned west end YMCA builidng to be ressurected as a church

BEAUMONT - The unfinished YMCA building that has sat empty for several years in the west end of Beaumont  will be reborn as church when a 53 year-old Church of Christ congregation makes it their new home.

Ridgewood Church of Christ which has been located along Interstate Ten just east of Eleventh Street in Beaumont for more than 50 years will be making the building their new home.

The congregation has been meeting at the Holiday Inn on Walden Road since early this year after selling their old building according to their website.

The congregation will be changing its name to Meadows Church of Christ when the move is final according to Dawn Tout of G & G Enterprises.

Meadows Church of Christ, G & G Enterprises Construction Corporation and Long Architecture will be hosting a ground breaking to kick off the renovation of the building which would have become home to the Beaumont YMCA.

The ground breaking ceremony will be on October 29, 2016, at 3 p.m. according to the release.

The 22,000 square foot facility will be renovated to accommodate the newly renamed church and the needs of its growing congregation.

The Ridgewood Church of Christ congregation had been worshipping in the building off of Interstate ten since 1963 according to their website.
