A Liberty County grand jury Thursday indicted a Hardin man for the murder of a 4-week-old girl.
Prosecutors say Brian Christopher Keith, 29, killed Nevaeh ("Heaven" spelled backward) Keith on July 2, 2013. Investigators say Nevaeh was found non-responsive in her bed at her home on CR 2061 in Liberty County near Hardin.
Investigators say Keith had been released from prison 9 days earlier and was on parole for an arson conviction. They say Keith held a great deal of resentment towards the baby because it was not his child.
Keith admitted to investigators that he had gotten up early the morning of July 2 to go to work when the baby was crying. Investigators admitted to "patting the child on the head and maybe striking the baby" while his wife was asleep.
The baby was found to be non responsive at about 11 a.m. that morning. Autopsy results indicate the baby died by "Compassion death" which is, in effect, death due to a blunt trauma to the body.
Keith remains held without bond in the Liberty County Jail.
