Liberty Co. officials arrest suspect in string of burglaries

A Port Arthur man is believed to be the person behind a string of burglaries in Texas and Louisiana.

According to a news release from the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, around 7 p.m. Wednesday, deputies spotted a stolen white 2005 Ford, 4-door. pickup truck wanted in some of the offenses and began to give chase. The driver of the pickup, identified as James Lee Parker, 62, didn't immediately stop.

When the chase was over, deputies arrested Parker. They say they found burglary tools in the truck.

The investigation that led to Parker's arrest was a multi-agency effort by law enforcement in areas affected by the recent string of burglaries. That includes the Liberty County Sheriff's Department, Chambers County Sheriff's Department, Hardin County Sheriff's Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Port Arthur Police Department.

Although investigations are continuing from all the law enforcement agencies involved, at this time investigators say it appears that Parker's arrest will solve at least three burglaries and thefts in this Liberty County, Chambers County may clear as many as six cases, Hardin County should clear two cases and Calcasieu Parrish, Louisiana, that already had theft warrants out on Parker, will file the additional charge of the stolen truck.

Parker was released on parole in March 2013 and has at least 38 past convictions.

He is currently in the Jefferson County jail.
