Lady Cards to face Southern Miss in WNIT
First-round game is Thursday in Hattiesburg, Miss.
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar Lady Cardinals will face Southern Mississippi in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The starting time will be announced in the near future.
The Lady Cardinals (18-12) are making their fifth appearance in a postseason national tournament, and their fourth in the last five seasons. Lamar participated in the NCAA Tournament in 1991 and 2010, the WNIT in 2011 and the WBI last season, advancing to the second round.
In Lamar's only other appearance in the WNIT, the Lady Cardinals dropped a 91-65 decision at Arkansas.
Lamar has played 21 of the other 63 teams in this year's field, posting a 58-55 all-time record. This season, Lamar's only regular-season opponent in the WNIT field was SMU, which held on for an 82-79 home victory over the Lady Cardinals back on Nov. 25.
Lamar is 2-2 all-time against Southern Mississippi. This season, the Golden Eagles went 26-6 overall, including a 13-3 mark in Conference USA. Southern Mississippi advanced to the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament before falling to Middle Tennessee 84-55.
