Lady Cardinals return home to host Texas State

Fans receive free admission with a new, unwrapped toy

BEAUMONT, Texas –The Lamar Lady Cardinals play their first home game in more than a month when they host Texas State at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Montagne Center.

Lamar (4-5) last played at home on Nov. 17, when it dropped a 68-67 decision to Tulsa. The Lady Cardinals went 2-3 on their five-game road sojourn since the last home contest.

"It's nice to be back at home," Lamar coach Robin Harmony said. "We're looking forward to playing in front of our fans."

Harmony hopes the home-court advantage helps Lamar snap its modest two-game losing streak and record the 600th victory in program history. The Lady Cardinals are 599-637 since starting the program in the 1969-70 season. Edwards leads Lamar with four double-doubles.

Dominique Edwards continues to lead Lamar in scoring at 17.1 points per game and in rebounding at 9.4 boards per contest. Edwards has scored in double figures in eight of Lamar's nine games this season. Gia Ayers, who averages 13.9 points per game, has reached double figures in scoring seven times.

Texas State (2-6) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 70-63 home win over Houston on Sunday. Ashley Ezeh leads the Bobcats in scoring at 12.3 points per game.

Texas State leads the overall series 21-9, but Lamar has won the last six meetings, including the last contest, a 56-50 decision at the Montagne Center on Feb. 29, 2012.

Wednesday's game features a Tickets for Toys promotion, with all fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy receiving free admission. All toys will be donated to the Women and Children's Shelter of Southeast Texas. For more information, call the ticket office at (409) 880-1715.

Following the game, Lamar will take a break for the Christmas holiday before closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule by hosting Rice at 2 p.m. Dec. 29.
