A jury has been seated in the case of a Port Arthur Independent School District veteran being charged with a third degree felony of injury to a child.
Ruby Gunner faces charges related to pushing, hitting and choking student Deshawn Willis, 11, at Robert E. Lee Elementary in April of last year.
In an exclusive interview with 12News last May, Gunner said she was acting in self-defense after the boy attacked her twice; first pushing her, then kicking her in the stomach.
Testimony will start Tuesday in Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens' courtroom.
If found guilty, Gunner faces two to ten years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000. The jury may also consider probation.
