Judge cancels Beaumont ISD's November election

12News has learned that the Beaumont ISD trustee election set for November 5 has been canceled.

Attorney Mike Getz says Judge Donald Floyd signed the order late this afternoon. BISD attorney Melody Chappell confirmed the information.

The order formally reschedules the election for another date which will be determined later.

In a special BISD board meeting Monday morning, trustees voted 6 to 1 to ask that it be rescheduled.

The 9th court of appeals earlier ruled that a November election would be illegal.

BISD's attorneys went to court to get permission from Judge Floyd to cancel the election.

Getz and other attorneys for the other side argued earlier Monday that the court doesn't have the authority to stop the election from continuing.
