The Jefferson County Medical Society is calling on the Beaumont Independent School District Superintendent and BISD senior administrators to resign.
The group, comprised of 475 physicians, is also calling for Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams to act upon, and approve the TEA investigators recommendation to appoint a Board of Managers to take over functional control of BISD.
"As practicing physicians in our community, we know that our foundation began with high quality education and learning at the primary level. We take our responsibility to our community seriously and have made this collaborative decision to advocate for a leadership change through a sober, deliberative process. It is time to begin a new pathway, with new standards, for a stable and respected future education platform to be built under new leadership with fresh hands, fidelity to their fiduciary obligations, and a new vision," said Dr. Garrett Peel, President of the Jefferson County Medical Society.
A spokesperson with the Texas Education Agency Tuesday confirmed to 12news that T.E.A. investigators are recommending to Commissioner Michael Williams that a board of managers take over the Beaumont Independent School District.
