It's been a decade since Ford Park was built, and now Jefferson County is looking at adding to the entertainment venue.
In a 12News exclusive, Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick confirmed that a hotel development company has approached the county about building a hotel at Ford Park.
It would be built on two-and-a-half acres. That land currently serves as a parking lot in front of the Exhibit Hall.
Judge Branick is not releasing the name of the interested hotel company, but he says it's a brand everyone's familiar with.
Two sources have told 12News the chain is Embassy Suites.
While Ford Park has been a huge burden on taxpayers over the year, Branick says things have gotten much better with increased revenue and decreased expenses.
Branick says taxpayers won't have to foot the bill for the hotel.
He said, "It will all be private money, there will be no money coming from the county. As a matter of fact, the county will be paid for the ground lease on the property."
Branick says it will be about two weeks before we know if the county will proceed with the project.
If it all goes as planned, the new hotel could be open for business by as early as next year.
