Jasper man killed in head-on collision

The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of a man killed in a Jasper County collision.

A DPS spokesperson has identified the man who died as Darrel Jason Brown, 31, of Jasper. The spokesperson said Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

He accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday on Highway 63 east of FM 254 in the Peachtree Community.

THe spokesperson said Brown was driving a 1997 Saturn Sedan northwest on Highway 63 when he crossed the center lane and collided head-on with a F-150 Ford pick-up truck.

The driver of the pick-up truck is identified as Travis Read, 40, of Lumberton. His father, Arden Read, 67, of Beaumont was a passenger. Both were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital. Travis Read was treated and released. Arden Read is listed in stable condition.
