Investigators seek identity of woman whose body was found north of Beaumont

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is trying to learn the identity of a woman whose body was found north of Beaumont Friday.

Sheriff's deputies received the first call around 5 p.m. Friday.  Deputy Rod Carroll said the owner of a hunting lease on Tram Road told deputies he saw a gate open.  He found the body when he went to see why the gate was open.

The victim's body was found about 50 yards inside the gate.

Deputy Carroll said evidence from the scene was taken to the Jefferson County Crime lab.  He did not say what evidence was collected.

An autopsy was completed Saturday morning and investigators are awaiting the results.  The following information about the woman was released immediately following the autopsy:

The victim is a:

*    black female,
*    approximately 40 -50 years of age, 
*    5'9"
*    300 lbs.
*    Black hair with some graying
*    Protruding top teeth with significant gap
*    No tattoos 
*    Painted toe and finger nails maroon or red burgundy
*    Ring finger on each hand had ring

Deputy Carroll said investigators believe due to the location the body was located that there is a high
probability that the victim is from Beaumont, but could be from another area.

Deputy Carroll said anyone who may know the woman's identity or have any information that could help investigators determine who she is, should call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 409-835-8411.  Information can also be given to investigators through Beaumont Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477).  Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.  All tips remain anonymous

The investigation is being led by deputies with the criminal investigation
