Intoxication manslaughter charge filed in collision that killed Groves woman

Charges were filed against a Port Arthur man Wednesday in connection with a collision that killed a Groves Woman.

Leroy Rideaux Jr., 27, has been charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault for the February 23 collision that killed Maria Guadalupe Gonzales, 38, of Groves.

A police spokesperson said Rideaux was traveling north in the 3900 block of Memorial Blvd. on February 23.  His vehicle  struck another from behind. The collision caused injuries to the driver, Gonzales and a 27-year-old male passenger.

Gonzales and the passenger were taken to Christus Hospital St. Mary in Port Arthur. Gonzales had critical injuries and was transferred to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where she died. The man suffered non-life threatening injuries.
