Social media is causing anti-social behavior in one Southeast Texas school district, and the Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District superintendent said whoever has launched an Instagram account degrading H-J students could face criminal prosecution.
The account is called H-J Hoes, and it asks followers to submit pictures that should be featured on the site.
The account has more than 450 followers.
Superintendent Shannon Holmes, Ed.D, is taking the matter seriously. He says it's not known if it's a student or someone in the community, but he says whomever it is could possibly face child pornography charges.
Holmes said, "We don't want any our students portrayed in an unsettling manner."
He also told us the district has reached out to Instagram, but that so far Instagram has not been very helpful.
The Beaumont Independent School District is also facing a similar issue at West Brook High School.
Authorities and school officials are investigating inappropriate photos of West Brook female students on an Instagram account.
Right now the West Brook and Hardin-Jefferson accounts are not believed to be connected, possibly just copy-cat incidents.
