A Houston man is in the Chambers County Jail charged with 1st degree murder after a road rage incident according to Sheriff Brian Hawthorne
Sheriff Hawthorne says Larry Dewayne Brinkley, 56, was driving his 15-year-old daughter home Friday when he cut off another vehicle at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The Sheriff's Office says when Brinkley arrived in the 500 block of Barrow Cemetery Road in Hankamer the driver who had been cut off pulled in behind Brinkley.
The driver, identified as 54-year-old Leslie Larrison, got out of his vehicle and began arguing with Brinkley about cutting him off according to a press release.
That's when the Sheriff's Office says Brinkley went back to his truck, got a hand gun, and shot Larrison.
Sheriff Hawthorne says Larrison's 10-year-old grandson was in his vehicle and witnessed the incident.
Brinkley reportedly fled the scene and was later captured by Chamber's County Sheriff's deputies after a short pursuit.
The handgun used was later found covered in blood. It has been recovered as evidence. Sheriff Hawthorne says Larrison was unarmed and appears not to have had any previous contact with Brinkley before the shooting happened.
Brinkley is being held in jail on $750,000.
