A trade group comprised of about 50 associate members and 60 home builder members is calling for the resignation of Superintendent of Beaumont Independent School District Dr. Timothy Chargois as well as the entire Board of Trustees to resign.
The Home Builders Association of Southeast Texas issued a press release Thursday, saying the City of Beaumont ranked last in Texas in 2013 for the number of new construction permits issued and believe the district is partly responsible for that.
"The Home Builders Association feels these changes must occur in order to salvage an already damaged reputation..."
At least three of the District's top administrators are the subject of a federal investigation for mishandling funds, while the Texas Education Agency is also conducting an investigation in the district's affairs. The TEA recently issued a scathing report into how the district was overseeing its finances.
The Home Builders Association of Southeast Texas says they supported the bond that passed in 2007 with the hopes that it would bring new construction to the area.
"The Association entrusted BISD that they would properly manage taxpayer funds," according to the release. "We join in the fight to help rebuild our community."
According to the press release, the Beaumont Association of Realtors and the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce have also called for the resignations.
