Group pushes to change old jail into boarding school

State Representative Joe Deshotel is making a legislative push to put the former
Al Price State Juvenile Correctional Facility back into use.

The facility and 50 acres alongside Highway 69 would be donated to Jefferson County and could only be used for "purposes benefiting the public interest of the state" under House Bill 1968.

A group including former Congressman Nick Lampson wants to turn the facility into a boarding school for at risk high school children..

The price unit was closed in 2011 amid state budget cuts.
