Granger gets death penalty

Bartholomew Granger, who was convicted in a March 14, 2012 shooting rampage at the Jefferson County Courthouse that killed 79-year-old Minnie Ray Sebolt, has been sentenced to death.  The sentencing was handed down Tuesday.

Granger's daughter and her mother were among those who were wounded the day of the shooting. They both survived the attack, but his daughter was left in a coma for three months because of her injuries.

Granger admitted in court that he was trying to shoot his daughter because she had testified against him in a sexual assault case.

The trial was moved from Jefferson County to Galveston so that jurors did not have to walk through the crime scene each day.

Throughout the trial Granger had outbursts of obscenities aimed at prosecutors, witnesses and even jury members.  Shortly after closing arguments were given, granger held a legal pad toward the jury where he had written "Death."
