Gator Country holds 5th annual kids tournament

Hundreds of kids from all over Texas and beyond had a blast trying to catch alligators in murky water in Beaumont Saturday.

It was all part of Gator Country's 5th Annual Kids Gator Rescue tournament. Kids competed to see who could catch a gator, tape its mouth three times around, and carry it to the circle the fastest. The smaller the child, the smaller the gator.

Every gator's mouth is taped shut so they can't bite anyone.

"There's not another place in the country that I know of that'll do this type of event. I think you can talk to any parent out here, they'll tell you, this is very professional and very safe," said Gary Saurage, owner of Gator Country.

It cost $5 to enter the tournament and all the money raised goes to the winners of each age group. Close to 500 kids took part in the event.
