Friends hold vigil for Derek Tremont

Family and friends are mourning the loss Derek Tremont, 24, of Beaumont. The West Brook graduate was killed in a traffic accident Saturday night on Highway 124 in Chambers County.

A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety said alcohol was a factor in the two-vehicle accident.

On Monday, Tremont's friends headed to Crockett Street in Beaumont for a vigil. They shared memories and prayed together in front of Dixie Dance Hall, a place Tremont frequented with friends.

"I love him and I miss him so much. I can't wait to see him again. I know he's up there watching over us," Drake Labove, Tremont's friend of two years said at the vigil.

12News learned that a friend of Tremont's arrived on scene of the accident Saturday and tried desperately get people out of the vehicles.  He was given a round of applause Monday night for his efforts. Six other people were hurt in the wreck. One of those victims remains in critical condition at UTMB Hospital in Galveston.
