Friends, family take to social media to remember ETX soldier killed in Iraq

TYLER - Friends and family are expressing their thoughts and memories about the young East Texas solider killed in Iraq on his first tour of duty.

The Department of Defense confirmed Tylerite Alex Missildine was killed by an IED in Iraq at only 21 years old.

According to Roger Pharr, whose daughter was close friends with Alex, Alex was only in Iraq for a month on his first tour when his life was cut short.

Still other friends remember him from his high school days at Robert E. Lee, where he played trumpet in the REL marching band:

Tyler ISD released the following statement on Alex's passing:

Tyler ISD is saddened to learn of the passing Spc. Alexander Missildine, a 2015 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. The District joins the Tyler community in thanking him for his service to our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of loss.

Thank you for your service, young Alex. May you rest in peace.

This story is updated to reflect that Alex Missildine was not married.
