Former Jasper Police chief sues city, others

Former Jasper police chief Rodney Pearson and his attorney Cade Bernsen are suing the city of Jasper and several individuals.

Pearson is suing the city along with Mayor Mike Lout in his individual capacity, the radio station Lout owns KJAS and Debbie Foster who is a city employee. Human Resources Director Joe Whitener is also being sued in his individual capacity and others who are unnamed are also being sued.

The suit alleges several individuals conspired to have Pearson fired by destroying his reputation through different forms of media.  It also alleges Jasper city leaders subjected Pearson to purposeful discrimination and unlawful employment practices.

When Pearson was hired in February 2011, he became the city's first black police chief.  He was fired on June 11th of this year.

12News left messages at the attorney representing the defendants, but we have not yet received a response to the allegations that are raised in the lawsuit.
