Former deputy pleads guilty to credit card fraud

A 21-year law enforcement career has come to an end because of a crime.

Fifty-year-old Jody Lang pleaded guilty to credit card abuse.

Lang was a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and the former treasurer for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy's Association.

He admitted to using the association's credit card for personal expenses totaling almost $930.

After he lost re-election to the treasurer's post, the association did an audit and discovered the illegal spending.

Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Perry Thomas said, "Certainly the public looks up to law enforcement officers and it's a shame for him to have broken that trust."

Judge Layne Walker sentenced Lang to two years deferred probation, meaning he will not have a criminal record if he completes the probation without problems.

Lang also repaid all the money illegally spent.
