Former Beaumont ISD employee charged with theft

A former Beaumont Independent School District maintenance worker has been charged with two counts of felony theft from the district.

Daryl Johnson has posted $30,000 bond on the charge.

His wife, Erin Johnson, is also charged in the theft.  She has posted $20,000 bond.

BISD issued the following statement in May when it began an investigation:

The Beaumont Independent School District has confirmed that an employee has been released from his duties after District officials discovered some overtime discrepancies. Superintendent Carrol Thomas told School Board trustees today that it appears the fired employee had designed a scheme to pay two persons for work who did not work for BISD. In essence, it appears that the persons were paid wages for work not done.

The District's police department is conducting a detailed investigation and expects to turn over all information to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office as quickly as possible. No other comments will be made by BISD officials while the investigation is pending.
