Ford Park New Management in Discussion

Jefferson Co Commissioners and SMG Meet

JEFFERSON COUNTY - SMG Executive Vice President Douglas Thornton delivered a slide show to the Jefferson County Commissioners on Monday of proposals that can improve Ford Park.

The company is currently overseeing the venue and wants to continue doing so. "We laid out a very specific plan to grow business like sports tourism and live entertainment." Said Thornton.

Earlier this year, Jefferson County Commissioners discussed to bring new proposals for the complex's management contract. "We have to look at it real close and make real numbers work." Said Commissioner Everette "Bo" Alfred.

SMG showed what could be the future of Ford Park with more music concerts and life-style events like the Margarita Festival this month. Also included is a convention hotel of 150 rooms on the property.

SMg is trying to provide "flexibility" for the county by offering three compensation proposals that range from $250 to $400 thousand dollars. "Right now the court has to sit down and make tough decisions and both groups did a well. We just have to make the best decision for the citizens for the county right now." Alfred told 12News.
