Fog believed to be a factor in fatal Liberty County motorcycle accident

A spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff's Office said fog is a factor in a fatal Monday-morning motorcycle accident.

Just after 7 a.m., Liberty County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Tommy Koen along with a Dayton Police Department unit and the Department of Public Safety responded to an accident on Hwy. 1960 at CR 611 near the West Liberty County line.  This is close to the City of Dayton City Limits. The accident involved a motorcycle rider and a tractor-trailer.

The spokesperson said visibility was less than 100' due to a very heavy and thick early morning fog.

"The preliminary indications are that the tractor-trailer was heading south off CR 611 and turning east off CR 611 onto Hwy. 1960 while the motorcycle rider was headed west on Hwy. 1960. It appears the motorcycle struck the middle of the trailer," says a statement issued Monday by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

All traffic was diverted off Hwy. 1960 onto CR 611 while the Department of Public Safety investigated the accident.

The name of the victim has not been released as of 10:30 a.m.
