Fire investigators suspect transients are responsible for Beaumont arsons

Bogie is a small dog with a big bark.  That's why his owner, Joey Daigle, says Bogie is a good watchdog.

Daigle says Bogie has had to scare off transients seeking shelter in a neighboring, vacant house on Hazel Street in Beaumont's Old Town.

Daigle believes transients are the ones who burned the house last week.

But it's not an isolated incident, since last month, Beaumont has been plagued with arsons at vacant houses and buildings, like the Castle Motel.

Beaumont Fire Captain Brad Penisson said, "It is a little unusual this time of year to be having something like this."

Like Daigle, Captain Penisson suspects transients.

Penisson said, "Could be they're trying to do some cooking, they're dropping smoking materials, other illegal activities maybe taking place."

He advises owners of vacant structures to board them up well, so that no one can get inside of them.
