Embattled city councilman removed from EDC

12News has learned that a Kountze city councilman who served as president of the Kountze Economic Development Corporation has been removed from from the EDC.

Kountze Councilman Ira Braneff, who is facing criminal charges amid allegations he stole money paid to him for the purchase of gravestones, was dismissed from his EDC duties because he missed three consecutive session.

The new EDC president is Barry Mitchell.  Mitchell also works for the fire department.

Braneff is still on the city council.  He could eventually lose his council seat if he misses three consecutive meetings. The city secretary says he has only missed one meeting so far.
