Elderly woman's attack shocks affluent Beaumont neighborhood

Beaumont police are looking for a man they say sexually assaulted and robbed an elderly woman.

The attack was reported in the Thomas Road subdivision, an affluent neighborhood off of Delaware.

Police are being very careful about the information they're releasing on this case.  Mainly out of respect for the woman, and also not to jeopardize the investigation.

The attack took place last week.  12News first learned about it from neighbors, who are currently living on high alert.

Jack Galloway has lived in the neighborhood for 13 years.  He says he's never had to feel on edge about his neighborhood until now.

Investigators are not saying much about what happened, but they did tell us that the suspect managed to get inside the woman's home.  They say that's where she was attacked.

Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames lives in the neighborhood.  She told us it's unfortunate any time there's crime in any neighborhood of the city.  But she says she's proud of the job Beaumont police officers are doing to keep all citizens safe.
